ACLU fighting for positive COVID-19 residents and staff at ACTA
The ACLU is now fighting for the men who live at ACTA. Pittsburgh's Action News 4, uncovered more than a dozen positive cases of COVID-19 at the center.
This morning, several of the men who live at Allegheny County Treatment Facility said they were supposed to be placed in hotels to be quarantined. They said they are still waiting for that to happen.
Nadine Lowry wants her son, Joshua, who lives there and tested positive to be moved quickly.
While the ACLU is offering their services criminal defense and civil rights attorney Paul Jubas has clients at ACTA as well.
According to Allegheny County officials, 11 residents and three workers tested positive at the facility that serves as a halfway house and drug rehab center on Fifth Avenue in Oakland.
The executive director for the program for offenders that is in charge of ACTA sent us a statement.
It says in part, “Under the direction of our medical director, we have isolated residents who tested positive while continuing to provide treatment to our remaining residents. Employees who tested positive have been directed to self-isolate and remain in contact with their health care providers. Residents who have a safe home plan have been moved to their homes; others are being cared for within the facility.”
