Former North Melbourne coach Dean Laidley will spend more time at a Geelong rehabilitation facility after his lawyer asked a court to extend his stay.

The 53-year-old was initially bailed into the private facility for 28 days after being charged with stalking and drug offences.

He is accused of stalking a woman over a financial dispute.

It is alleged the former player and coach took photos of an apartment he owned, which the woman was living in, also asking the body corporate for CCTV footage.

Police also allegedly found 0.43g of crystals, believed to be methamphetamine, on him when he was arrested.

Lawyer Rob Stary told the Melbourne Magistrates' Court Laidley needed another week or ten days in the facility before he moved to a transitional facility in Melbourne.

The matter has been adjourned until December.

The AFL Players Association is funding his in-house care at the treatment facility.
