We breakdown the 3 drugs that Malaysians are into currently

What do Molly, Mcdonald, and Magic Mushroom have in common?

All three are popular drugs of choice ingested by young Malaysians at parties, entertainment outlets, and nightclubs.

According to Bernama, the drugs gained fame and notoriety since early 2019 and were only recently discovered by authorities.

What do they do and are they dangerous? We break it down for you.

Friendly Note: Taking drugs can land you in jail and sometimes even a death sentence under Malaysian law. So... yeah.

Molly.

Also called methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), this drug is at times classified as a type of ecstasy drug.

Often arriving in the form of a pill or powdery substance, it's typically ingested with alcohol.

“Molly has not been specifically detected but it's believed that drug users are mixing ecstasy with other illicit substances aimed at increasing or reducing the psychoactive substance effects,” Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd, Bukit Aman Narcotics Investigation Department (JSJN) director, says.

Users who've used the drug claim to be at ease, daring, and even euphoric.

The drug is also known to have caffeine, methamphetamine, amphetamine or cocaine included in it. According to Thailand's DARA Rehab, in some cases, even bath salts are thrown in.

Mcdonald.

Nope, not the burger. Though I have to admit, every afternoon I do crave for a fat, juicy McDonald's burger. Nope, not addicted to fast food.

This drug, however, has nothing to do with the fast food giant. Just like Molly, it comes as either a powder or pill and it's a fusion of four other substances: Morphine, cocaine, methaphetamine, and amphetamine.

Okay, now I get the burger reference...

According to Mohd Khalil, the drug was discovered during a police raid in Penang.

“Previously this drug was not available, so we need to study whether the drug was smuggled into the country before being distributed to other countries,” he said.

Magic Mushroom.

I'm not sure if this drug comes in the form of an actual mushroom since I've never really seen it. And even if I did, there's a high chance I won't tell you.

Apparently it comes in the form of dried leaves, and my guess is folks typically smoke it to get high. Or perhaps mix it in their drinks and sip it like tea?

I don't know how you guys do it, man... But one thing is for sure: It has hallucinogenic properties.

Nipping them in the bud.

Malaysian authorities have yet to register these drugs as scheduled substances. But Mohd Khalil adds that this will happen real soon.

It's the police force's top priority at the moment, after all.

“The police will have to register them in the schedule immediately. We must act as fast as they move,” he says.

I know what you're thinking. Don't have any ideas. Drugs are bad for you.
